“Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.”   Ps 36:5 NKJV

The Lord Helps His Troubled People

“Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. 2 Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah

“3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. 4 I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah

“5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.

“7 Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. 8 Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah” Ps 3:1-8 NKJV

The above is a Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son.

You can read the context of this very dramatic and difficult time in King David’s life in 2 Samuel chapters 13 through 19. How would one feel if their son had gathered a multitude of rebels to come and take their life and their home and belongings… the entire kingdom in David’s case. Would we be able to express the above words David proclaimed concerning God’s mercy, consolation, and faithfulness…?

Considering our turbulent and uncertain times, when it seems our own government and the majority of once trusted institutions, and the near entirety of information sources are all suspect to say the least… if not all collectively conspiring to constrain us, bend our thinking, doubt our own eye-witness views, incite us with fear, and twist our life’s normal liberties and future hopes into an Orwellian dystopia.

In the midst of all this, let us grasp the timeless promises and truth recorded in God’s eternal Word concerning His faithfulness (as King David proclaimed in his darkest hour) and place our hope and future in those promises and truths… regardless of what or who may pursue us, to evil ends and purposes, that demonically driven ungodly and wicked evil doers plan against us.

Shalom… John
