A foundation is designed to provide an unmovable base for everything that rests upon it.

For all building projects, the designer must know the specifics of the structure to be built, and he must consider the soil (earth composition), loads & forces (static and dynamic loads), and any other challenges that the structure will encounter… including ground water, floods, wind, earthquakes and etc… Perhaps you have heard the phrase “earth, wind, fire and water.” Forces which nature controls… not man.

Our creator, Yahweh, seeing the end from the beginning [isa 46:10] and knowing everything, especially everything that each of us unique persons would face and be challenged by, designed our foundation components to be suitable for our journey through life’s experiences. The Bible tells us a lot about Yahweh’s involvement with “foundations.”

“Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.” Ps 102:25 nkjv

“You who laid the foundations of the earth, So that it should not be moved forever,” ps 104:5 nkjv

“When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth,” prov 8:29 nkjv

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.” ps 89:14 nkjv

The Bible tells us Yeshua was the “lamb slain” (our foreordained redeemer), from the foundation of the world… rev 13:8

Paul the Apostle wrote to the Corinthians:

“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.” 1 cor 3:11-13 nkjv

Now, normally, when a “designer,” officially licensed for Architectural and/or Engineering services, makes a plan for a building project, he specifies the details for the civil, electrical, mechanical, appurtenant goods and services… as well as the specific material and its functionality suitable for all the project’s requirements, and all must be proven to be “state of the art” by several means of verification and testing as may be required. Generally, the material supply, labor, and site work are done by one or more contractors skilled in the trades under consideration… not the designer, although some design and build contractors do exist.

Notice above that Yahweh, Master Architect/Engineer of the Universe “...designed our foundation components to be suitable for our journey through life’s experiences.” Although, like the modern Architect/Engineer, He passes off the actual “building” of each life’s foundation to its own owner, as Yeshua spoke of in Matthew 7… Keep in mind that everything we need for this project is of the best quality and proven for the most difficult challenges. Consider this:

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 pet 1:2-4 nkjv

So then, our human life’s foundation is primarily a Spiritual matter, as noted above, Yahweh having, “...given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him…” The core component of our foundation thereby, is the “knowledge of Him,” or His forever settled Word, by which He upholds all things. Heb 1:3 nkjv This is why “obedience” to the Word of God, by faith in Yeshua’s divine work on our part, is the primary and most important “component” of our foundation. Listen to Yeshua’s closing comments relative to [obeying vs disobeying], in His “Sermon on the Mount,” Matthew 7:24-27 nkjv:

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

When we read Ps 119, we see reminders and reassurances of the substance that Yeshua is to each of us, and how His strength and power is exhibited as “reinforcement” in our Spiritual Foundation. For example:
