"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:”  jer 31:31-32 kjv

Yeshua [Jesus] is the “intercessor,” or High Priest, who stands at the Right Hand of God, making intercessions for us continually… concerning the terms of the “new” covenant. If you read Hebrews chapter 8, you will read nearly the identical words, concerning a new covenant, as noted above in Jeremiah chapter 31. Yeshua is not revising the “covenant,” but HE is the fixer of the failure of the earthly Priesthood, and fleshly unfaithfulness of men, which were imperfect, and it was impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to cleanse our guilt from our sins. Only the Blood of the spotless lamb of God could destroy not only our sins in Yahweh’s sight, but it also destroyed the power of sin to condemn us.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” rom 8:1 kjv

When we “walk in the Spirit,” I think it means we walk in agreement with the Word of God, our expression of our agreement with the covenant… not substituting some institutional church or religious dogma. As “Spirit” is noted here, it is this:

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” jn 6:63 kjv; “As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.” isa 59:21 kjv;

When Yeshua, the intercessor [mediator] is serving as our High Priest, we must come to Him in agreement to the terms of the covenant… perhaps an easier understanding would be to call it Yahweh’s provision and sustenance… which being a “covenant” means we have a half-part in the terms; not unlike a marriage covenant. In fact there are Biblical narratives that make reference to such. When we fail to do our part, it makes Yeshua’s efforts difficult… that is why He told the religious leaders of His day, “your traditions [changes and additions] to the Torah, make My Father’s Word of no affect. Mat 15:6; mk 7:13 nkj

It is my opinion that too many “believers” confess their church doctrine instead of the “words,” that Isaiah says have “been put in our mouth;” why, because, I think, they think they are doing right [honestly], but so many have never seriously read the covenant, so that their mouth’s can confess and proclaim it… as to “who” they are, and as to “ what” is expected of them. As we come closer to the end of days, the Babylonian culture we live in continues to mix up Biblical truth and it’s meaning of holiness and faithfulness… which subtly and covertly undermines our proper conviction to our covenant responsibilities. I hope you will read these Bible verses, and think of what they are saying:

Isaiah chapters 54-56; Ezekiel chapters 34-39; Jeremiah chapters 30-31; Hebrews chapter 8: concern Yahweh’s plans for the future blessings upon Zion [Israel]; restoration of the two houses of Israel, and the move of Yahweh to bring the nation of Israel back into its intended place, with their mourning turned into joy; and vindicate His Great Name; and the Renewal of the covenant, which includes a covenant of everlasting peace [7th and final covenant Yahweh has made with man], with Yeshua crowned King of Kings and seated upon the throne in Jerusalem… to rule with a rod of iron in the millennial [1,000 years] kingdom. When Yeshua first came, and was crucified, resurrected, and ascended into heaven, the new covenant began to unfold; it will commence with His return and establishment of His earthly reign… with the covenant of peace fully implemented.

I think many people have an incomplete grasp as to “who” Biblical Israel is [people], and what it is to be Biblically connected to the covenant… the Apostle Paul told the Galatians, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” gal 3:28 kjv; Paul also explains the “who” the body Christ is in Romans chapters 9-11. There is much to be considered in these issues. I have made a special slide presentation on The Hebrew Roots of Your Faith (PDF file)… I hope you will consider reading it.

Shalom, John
