September 7, 2021 What is “Trust,” and how does it affect our lives…? Do you “trust” the bank to honestly and faithfully deal with your financial security? Do you “trust” the airplane and the pilot to deliver you safely to your trip’s destination? Do your trust the surgeon to open up your chest and repair the vascular blockages in your body? Those were easy questions, right… How about, do you “trust” God to guide your decisions and direction in life? What would happen to our economy if suddenly the financial institutions could not be “trusted?” Our entire economic system is founded upon “trust,” you think? Trust in many of our historic foundations, previously taken for granted, is being compromised and in many situations, corrupted to worthlessness… i.e., do you trust the information the news media provides, or propaganda from our government nowadays? Where does one turn for comfort, security, and peace in our turbulent times… Proverbs says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” prov 3:5-6 nkjv The two “bookends” of faith, lived out, are “trust and obey.” Notice trust and faith are both very closely related, both require obedience and faithfulness for them to work in our lives. The Bible promises us many things… but they are conditional, IF you do this, THEN I [God] will do this… Why do so many people, calling themselves believers, choke on the offer Yahweh [God] makes them? Here is King David’s view of Yahweh’s involvement in his life: “Teach me Your way, O Lord, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. 12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence. 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” ps 27:11-14 nkjv Note, “because of my enemies.” There are many forms of evil, that are “enemies” of the believer in the world we live in… they may not have a sword or gun to attack us, but the destructive and debilitating power of fear mongering and threats to our health, security, and peace are nonetheless the same… they ARE powerful enemies. We must trust Yahweh more than we trust men and their proposals of false and uncertain security; and in the end… know WHO our deliverer really is. “You [God] will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” isa 26:3 nkjv Shalom… John |
